HBZ - HANDWERKSKAMMER BILDUNGSZENTRUM MÜNSTER
Vocational Training Centre of the Chamber of Crafts of Münster
The HBZ is one of the biggest vocational training centres for crafts in Germany. It is a part of the Chamber of Crafts of Münster, which represents and promotes the interests of more than 29.000 craft enterprises in the region of Münster.
HBZ as a leading training and further education provider has the appropriate capacities, both for theoretical and practical training, with seminar rooms, workshops, accomodation and supply facilities. Our training centre has a size of 60.000 square meters.
The quality of the training centre has been certified by ISO 9001 for many years.
The trainings are mainly on the levels 4-6 of the European Qualifications framework (EQF) – additional training for apprentices, master qualification classes and further education.
The trainings offered – with 2.000 training places and 12.000 participants each year cover the competences needed for a wide range of trades and subjects.
In cooperation with two local Universities of Applied Sciences we have also established and successfully run two bachelor degree programs.
For over 30 years, we have gained experience in more than 50 national and international projects especially in the fields of environmental protection, ecological building and energy technology in buildings as well as in innovative didactics and digitalization of VET.
We have been involved in transnational projects such as Cap’em with partners from North West Europe linking demonstration centres and we’ve been the transnational lead developer for the solar technology education “Solarteur”. We developed training courses on passive house building with Dutch partners, realized curriculum innovation and trainings in the field of green tech for Greek partners. We also contributed to establish technology and training transfer with South Africa, Israel, Taiwan especially in the field of solar energy.
In order to visualize the developments in the field of ecological building and high energy standard building for our core target groups and the wider public, we established a Demonstration Centre of Building and Energy full of new techniques, measuring technology and a specialized exhibition.
Additionally our training workshops and their equipment are being constantly renewed to maintain our high standards. With our “green workshop”, for example, we run one of the few highly modern workshops for renewable energies.
We are also experienced and successful in local, regional and national networking: In the course of the last twenty years we have established several national centres of competence – e.g. in the fields of building and energy, renewable building materials, digitalization, hygiene, commercial vehicles. The concept of the centres of competence is quite similar to the cluster idea of the centres of excellence, but on a national level: there is cooperation with institutions of different educational levels, with science, economy, enterprises, cities, sectors and associations.
Innovation and strict orientation towards the qualification needs of the staff of the crafts enterprises (mainly SMEs) is one of our core values of quality and success. Within the projects and centres of competence we deal consequently with the professional needs of tomorrow and implement newest techniques in our trainings.
At HBZ, we highly value innovative training methodology: We were one of the first vocational training centres using a Moodle learning platform to create an online learning environment. Since the beginning of the Coronavirus Pandemic, we have been able to continue most of our theory classes as online. Thus, we successfully adapted to challenges and developed a strong interest in enhancing our digital competencies. We want to further develop and implement concepts of blended learning, network-controlled collaboration and certainly the development of more webinars and virtual reality trainings. We would be delighted to be part of the collaboration of centres of excellence and contribute with our deep experience in vocational training.
