FONDAZIONE ENGIM

FONDAZIONE ENGIM operates in the field of vocational training and it’s distributed in 7 Italian Regions with 29 VET Centers. At national level ENGIM is a Foundation that groups ENGIM Regional Entities.
ENGIM realizes 345,730 training hours per year (that is 689 courses/programmes) for 9,844 students (iVET+cVET) and 780 trainers. Our vision is the promotion of activities concerning vocational training and the improvement of the value of human resources, especially for young and disadvantaged people.
ENGIM itself is a National COVEs’ Network, as it groups 5 ENGIM COVEs in Italy in 5 Regions (Piemonte, Veneto, Lombardia, Emilia Romagna, Lazio), each one with its specific local ecosystem, with the aim of playing a key role in VET Transition and Recovery.
ENGIM works in close collaboration with a wide range of local/regional partners, to:
-develop together with them local “skills ecosystems” emerging from labour market needs’ analysis (skills anticipation process)
-provide high quality vocational skills (initial training for young people, up-skilling and re-skilling) to foster transition from sectors that are in decline to new growing sectors and to embed green and digital skills
-support entrepreneurial activities, diffusion of innovation, and act as knowledge and innovation hubs for companies
-develop VET at higher qualification levels (“more attractive and flexible VET”)
-support entrepreneurship and start-ups.
For this reason, ENGIM has elaborated an Action Plan 2021-2027 for next COVEs’ EU calls, in order to:
-Guarantee effective work-based learning experiences, even when there is a lack of structured companies able to host trainees or apprentices, or even after an economic crisis like that one we expect after the pandemic;
-Expand the Dual System model (15-60 years old), through a close synergy and integration of training services, job services and business; to match the skills’ needs of both young people in initial training and adults to be up-skilled or re-skilled (continuous training of skills);
-Develop modular training provisions, based on the validation of prior learning (learning outcomes acquired in non-formal and informal learning) and on the analysis of the skills to be acquired;
-Use digital tools to enrich VET provisions: digitalization in VET can not replace learning on-the-job, but digital tools can be used in VET to prepare, improve and “augment” practice learning;
-Promote internationalisation and transnational mobility, both for training staff and learners;
Our mission is to carry out educational initiatives addressed especially to those more exposed to the risks of professional and social exclusion. Our action is focused on promoting activities and programs concerning vocational training and education, in order to improve the skills and human capacities of the young and people with fewer opportunities, with the aim to include them in the labour market. The strategies we're using and, consequently, the activities that we're developing aim to:
- Promote the development and the growth especially of the youth, through cultural and technical vocational and educational training
- To implement education and job integration activities, addressing beneficiaries who risk cultural, professional and social marginalization
- To support the promotion of human dignity and the right to sustainable development, in collaboration and partnership with social workers, volunteers, beneficiaries and local communities.
Taking advantage of the opportunities offered by the dual system, ENGIM has chosen to innovate vocational training by reconsidering work as an educational challenge. Through the work based learning approach, some innovative models have made their way that help students in acquiring soft-skills through personal experience, promoting the school-work transition of young students, We have chosen to base our training actions through: training company, company academy, apprenticeship.

Current level of involvement in Vocational Excellence:ENGIM itself is a National COVEs’ Network, as it groups 5 ENGIM COVEs in Italy each one with its specific local ecosystem, with the aim of playing a key role in VET Transition and Recovery.
With the awareness that the working environment cannot be reproduced exclusively in well-equipped laboratories, ENGIM has launched projects such as the TRAINING COMPANY and the COMPANY ACADEMY, which complete the scenario already offered by the APPRENTICESHIP, the main form of school-work relationship activated by the dual system.
In its natural evolution, the apprenticeship is not only a technical and training challenge played out in synergy between the institution and the partner company, but it becomes an opportunity for discussion and sharing of an educational plan for young people.
In the school-to-work transition models, it is crucial to prepare young people, even those who are very young, to support the transition with the right life and soft skills, the transversal competences needed to face life: alongside KNOWLEDGE, KNOW-HOW and KNOW-BE, there is KNOW-HOW TO BE, a much more complex skill that requires an attitude that is only expressed if the individual has learnt how to activate the skills learnt. Both the Training Company and the Academy are privileged channels for ENGIM Training Centres to create and strengthen new "territorial relations" useful to develop training/economic projects with shared objectives.
Over the years ENGIM has also developed know how in e-learning and content management systems by developing on-line courses and providing innovation tools for distance learning. In 2020, using a streaming platform and some webcams, ENGIM started its experience with the augmented laboratory: a real environment that is shared and experienced "virtually" even by students physically very far from it. For the augmented laboratory ENGIM decided to use the docu-reality model (documentary + reality), the television format that airs informative and educational contents through real-life filmed scenes, like the traditional documentary. In general, excellence activities run by or VET Centres can be resumed as follows:
-Job services (tailor-made trainings, job search, job tutoring)
-Guidance services (validation of prior learning, micro-credentials)
-Professional development of staff (EU mobilities, trainings)
-Relationships with local stakeholders (agreements with training companies, policy makers, universities, regional institutions)
-IVET and HVET (flexible training pathways)
-CVET (upskilling and reskilling)
-International activities and EU projects (Internationalization strategy, EU Networks)
-Partnerships with companies and chambers of commerce
